Steppe Eagle 2009
The Steppe Eagle-2009 international tactical exercises have begun in the Almaty region involving over 1.5 thousand soldiers from Kazakhstan, Great Britain and the USA. The main aim of the event is to improve the battle readiness and peacekeeping operations featuring international forces.
The scenario stipulates that the opponent opens fire and peacekeepers need to break through. As a result of the battle, a Kazakhstan soldier was wounded but the mission was completed and terrorists were eliminated.
Exercise "ZHETYSU 2009"
The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC) and the Ministry for Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan conducted the disaster response field exercise “ZHETYSU 2009” from 5 to 10 September 2009 in the city of Kapchagay in the Almaty province of Kazakhstan.
All together, approximately 1000 participants, including more than 500 from Kazakhstan, participated in the exercise. Over twenty Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) nations have nominated civilian and military teams, as well as command elements with the expertise and capability to deal with different aspects of emergencies.
